Algebra on the Web


	We have developed a package to allow what we hope will eventually seem to be intelligent feedback on algebra problems. Students can enter one step at a time, getting feedback if they make a mistake. The latest version is available online at http://www.cms.livjm.ac.uk/www/homepage/cmspstri/treefrog.htm by following the 'prototype' link. The examples are all along the lines of `factorise this quadratic/cubic polynomial' at the moment, allowing students to enter one step at a time. We are particularly interested in gathering data on typical mistakes made, so please feel free to make some! There is also a piece of MSDOS software called TREEFROG which covers more areas; calculus, discrete maths and equations, and even includes a tool MACFROG for authoring your own questions. You are very welcome to download this, and comments would be extrememly welcome (even unfavourable ones!) If you think the general idea has potential, but it is not quite what you could use then do let me know. I would be happy to develop new ideas, such as putting simple equations on the web page or improving the interface.
