CAAS Online Sharing Circle

If you haven't already done so, join our LISTSERV... E-mail this message "subscribe CAASNETWORK Yourfirstname Yourlastname" to the York University LISTSERV. Our CAAS Network ListServ
is sponsored by a member of our network who is a Professor in pedagogy and new technology (at the Faculty of Education, York University). Miigwetch to her and to the York CNS staff!

When you join our ListServ, we will automatically send you all the rest of the information on this page, so you don't need to memorize it RIGHT NOW. You'll receive your very own personal copy, just by signing onto our online Sharing Circle!

However, for those of you who want to know what you have got into already, or would like to know more before you sign up, here's the scoop...

This address >>CAASNETWORK@yorku.ca<< is called the "list address". This is where you send your messages. This process is called "sending mail to the list," because you send mail to a single address >>CAASNETWORK@yorku.ca<< and the messaging software stored at York CNS makes copies for all the people who have subscribed to OUR list.

After you have subscribed you can post (i.e. "send mail to the list") a new Greeting!, announcement, query for help, resource link, etc., on our Online Sharing Circle. Or you can start by replying to someone else's message. When you send a message, it goes automatically to the hundreds of grassroots network members already on our list. We are across Canada and First Nations territories, and we share YOUR commitment to changing what is taught in Canadian schools.

This address >>LISTSERV@yorku.ca<< is the address of the server that manages all York University ListServ accounts. This is where you send "commands" such as "subscribe", "signoff", and other more technical things. If you have a burning passion to get familiar with ListServ capabilities, check out this online resource: http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/1.8d/user/user.html. You must never try to send any command to the "list address," as your message would be distributed to all our subscribers.

All commands to join, leave, etc., must be sent to the >>LISTSERV@yorku.ca<<

You may QUIT THE LIST at any time, temporarily while you go on vacation, or if you get super-busy, or if you find the current discussion annoying, or permanently, by sending a message to LISTSERV@yorku.ca saying "signoff CAASNETWORK."

You can REJOIN later or help someone SUBSCRIBE to our list with these instructions: send a message to LISTSERV@YORKU.CA with the following text in the body of the message >>subscribe CAASNETWORK Firstname Lastname<<

E-mail our CAASNETWORK LISTSERV manager, if you have problems. Just to keep the learning, teaching circle going... for those of you who might want to do a ListServ, it took someone who doesn't know much about these kinds of things about a week of every spare minute (and then some...) to figure out how to do this. The CNS and Faculty at York made the learning curve easier, but the manual cited above was very helpful.

The members of the CAAS network are looking forward to sharing and planning online with you...
