Getting involved with CAAS:

We welcome involvement in any or all of our projects as well as information about resources, current "Best Practices" in your region, and other helpful networking.

CAAS is also available to you - to help with your questions, whether they relate to resources, teaching strategies, contacts for guests or field trips, intercultural protocols, etc.

The fastest way to reach us is via email to caas@edu.yorku.ca or you can use the coordinates posted on this site's "Contact Us" page.

Some of the projects we can use help with right now are listed below.

HELP NEEDED!

CURRENT IMPORTANT TASKS

  • Teachers Teach Teachers "Best Practices":
Getting feedback on the question "What is one thing you do in your classroom to ensure the presentation of Aboriginal perspectives in the curriculum?" For more on this and related research, see Other Projects.

  • Outreach and Promotion: Help us build awareness of CAAS in your region, schoolboard, federation, specialist teaching organization, faculty, etc. - caas@edu.yorku.ca

  • Identifying Potential Sources of Funding: CAAS has been without "core" or program funding since June, 2001 when the Department of Indian Affairs announced changed priorities and redirected funding away from their Public Education Unit. We have been without ANY kind of funding since December 31, 2001 when we concluded the Student Awareness Study report for the Canadian Race Relations Foundation. If you have any ideas about how we can get some financial support for our national grassroots network, please contact us - caas@edu.yorku.ca

  • Joining our Advisory Group for the Help Line: Have you been at this for a while? Are you ready to help with mentoring others? Classroom teachers, parents and others needing advice and resources contact us for support and ideas. If you feel you could help with this, please let us know. We can particularly use specialists in sciences, Aboriginal languages, and other fields that provide creative scope for integration of Aboriginal-perspective content across the curriculum. Contact caas@edu.yorku.ca

YOUR INPUT CAN HELP HERE, TOO...

  • Refinement of Proposed Learning Expectations: Go to this link for more information on the content and stage we are at: Proposed CAAS Learning Expectations

  • Developing Regional, Local or Cultural CAAS Mini-Networks: see our Vision section for more background on how these might look and their purpose - then email us with your thoughts.

  • Check out Turning Point: a respectful meeting place for Native Peoples and Newcomers online, where you can find many issues and questions that are relevant to CAAS' everyday work -- www.turning-point.ca

  • Submit Something for the CAAS Newsletter or our Website Resources Page: We can always use good and creative content for our website - bibliographies, links, articles, notices, events listings, and so on! The newsletter comes out three times per year, in October, February and May. We welcome relevant articles and other reproducible materials. Contact caas@edu.yorku.ca

If you want our newsletter in email format, just send us a note. If you want it in print form, send us your mailing address please. Find our coordinates at Contact Us.
