Teachers Teach Teachers

In our view, all Aboriginal and Canadian students across Canada must have the opportunity to develop a full awareness and understanding of First Peoples' perspectives, histories, cultures and contemporary issues before they graduate from high school.

We believe these civics skills are essential for addressing the outstanding issues in the relationship between all the First Peoples of this land and the Canadian People.
To support these goals, the CAAS has embarked on a many-faceted professional development initiative called Teachers Teach Teachers (TTT). TTT has received some funding from the George Cedric Metcalf Charitable Foundation and the Public Education Unit of the federal Department of Indian Affairs & Northern Development.

At this point, our TTT initiative has three components - just click on the buttons below to learn more:

  • ASK US FOR HELP
    We offer a help line for educators who are:
    • hunting for resources they can't find;
    • looking for tips on finding the appropriate resource person to visit with their class;
    • searching for other teachers working with this curriculum in their region;
    • needing support with teaching strategies;
    • wanting to "ask an expert" how to handle a particular problem related to the delivery of appropriate Aboriginal-perspective curriculum within their class programme.

It's easy to get the support you need! Just send us an email, or go to "Contact Us" and call, mail or fax in your question. Your question will be posted anonymously if you request. Answers to previous questions are posted in the "Resources" section and can be found using our "Search" facility. Your answer will also be sent directly to you.

  • SHARING SUCCESSES
    Across Canada, many educators are already doing an excellent job with this curriculum. We want to drag you out of the classroom for just long enough to find out what it is that makes your program work well and how you have developed yourself for this work. The teachers we seek are distinguished by their ability to handle this curriculum within school board-operated provincial and territorial schools. Specifically, these teachers have demonstrated outstanding ability to bring their students of all backgrounds to a deeper understanding of and respect for the historic and contemporary First Peoples of this land.

    Also, if you have anything to contribute (resources, links, whatever) we ask you to click on our "How to Get Involved" button and send us what you've got! We'll post that up in our "Resources" section as well.
  • CAAS IS LOOKING FOR HELP
    On this page you will find any questions we have been asked recently - we're hoping YOU might be able to help us answer these! If you've got something to contribute that might help us out, go to "How to Get Involved" and send it on in! Or, you can use this mail-in form right here.

    Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks and Miigwetch!
